HSBC Group General Manager and Regional Head of Belt & Road Initiative for HSBC Asia Pacific
Mr. Mukhtar Malik Hussain, based in Hong Kong is currently HSBC Group General Manager and Regional Head of Belt & Road Initiative for HSBC Asia Pacific. Mr. Hussain is also a Non-Independent Executive Director of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, and Director and Chairman of HSBC Bank (Singapore) Limited and Director of FIDE Forum.
Prior to this role, he was Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Malaysia, a position he held for close to a decade beginning December 2009.
A graduate of the University of Wales with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Mr. Hussain started his career in HSBC as a graduate trainee in 1982 and has worked in a number of businesses and geographies including the UK, the Middle East and North Africa.
After spending the initial decade of his career in the London offices of HSBC, he moved on to the Middle East where he held several key positions which included the position of Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Financial Services (Middle East) Limited from 1995 to 2003. It was at this time that he established the first foreign investment bank in Saudi Arabia for HSBC.
Returning to London in 2006, he assumed the role of Co-Head of Global Banking, Global Head of Principal Investments, Deputy Chairman of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited and Global Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Amanah before moving to Malaysia in 2009.
