Renato Lima de Oliveira is an Associate Professor II of Management (Business and Society) at Asia School of Business, where he also serves as Deputy Dean of Student Journey. He received his PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), an MA degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil.

His research agenda explores the political economy of development and state–business relations, particularly in the areas of energy transition, climate politics, carbon markets, and industrial policy. His work has appeared in leading journals and publishing outlets, including Renewable and Sustainable Energy ReviewsRegulation & GovernanceBusiness & PoliticsTechnological Forecasting and Social ChangeComparative Political Studies, as well as edited volumes published by Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and others.

He frequently speaks at academic and industry conferences, including leading disciplinary meetings and policy forums. At Asia School of Business, he teaches courses on international business and energy markets and advises Action Learning projects. He was also the founding director of Asia School of Business’s Center for Technology, Strategy, and Sustainability (CTSS), where he continues to serve as a faculty affiliate.

Professor Lima de Oliveira has worked as a consultant on energy, environmental, and political issues, including assignments for Mexico’s Ministry of Energy and the World Bank. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a business reporter in Brazil, with experience in newspapers, television, and radio.

He is also a research affiliate at MIT Sloan and a fellow of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS-Malaysia). More information about his research and professional activities can be found at www.lima-de-oliveira.com.
