Prior to that, she was the Deputy General Manager in the Corporate Secretariat Division at Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (“PIDM”) specialising in research on corporate governance and compliance for the organisation. Her role included updating PIDM’s Governance Committee and Board on the latest global and regional developments in corporate governance, with recommendations to implement relevant developments in PIDM’s policies and procedures. She also conducted training and produced training materials for PIDM’s compliance programme.
Elsa was also the head of the Corporate Governance Department at Bursa Malaysia and was involved in the development of the 2nd edition of the Corporate Governance Guide for Bursa Malaysia, the Sustainability Reporting Guide and Toolkits for public listed companies and the AGM Guide for Listed Companies. She was also involved in preparing the OECD Asian Roundtable Report on Improving Supervision and Public Enforcement in Asia. She also developed the Analysis of Corporate Governance Disclosure in Annual Reports which was published on Bursa Malaysia’s website. This involved reviewing the corporate governance disclosures in annual reports of public listed companies and providing each company with an individual report of their disclosures and areas for improvement.
Elsa has been a panelist and moderator at various conferences and seminars organised by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Institute Integriti Malaysia and the International Malaysia Law Conference.
Elsa holds a PhD from Monash University and a Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws from University Malaya. She was a lecturer at the Monash University Sunway Campus, specialising in teaching corporate governance. She was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Team-based Educational Development and the Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has published several book chapters and journal articles in the area of corporate governance.
