Biography

David Asirvatham is a professor of practice at the Asia Business of School.  David is an academic and a practician in the area of AI and Information Technology. 

His experience includes:

  • Executive Dean of the Faculty of Innovation and Technology at Taylor’s University
  • Director and CTO for the Information Technology Centre at the University of Malaya
  • Director and CTO for the Information Technology Centre at the Multimedia University.
  • Associate Dean for the Faculty of Information Technology (Multimedia University)
  • Project Manager for the IT Infrastructure Development for MMU university campus (US$14 million IT package)
  • Finance Committee for Multimedia University
  • SAP Advisory for High Education Council (Germany)
  • Consultant for e-University Project.
  • Researcher in AI and Data Science

David completed his Ph.D. from Multimedia University, M.Sc. (Digital System) from Brunel University (U.K.), and B.Sc. (Hons) Ed. and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Malaya.  He has been in the academic leadership and CTO role for 30 years.  His expertise includes neural networks, artificial intelligence, IT Strategy Development and Implementation and e-learning technologies.

At the national level, he was the Chairman for the ICT Human Capital Development for 11th Malaysia Plan 2016-2020 (Prime Minister’s Office), Secretary for the Artificial Intelligence Society Malaysia, President of Data Science Association (Malaysia) 2022/24, Country Representative for the Asia E-learning Network (AEN) based in Japan, Steering Committee Member for the Implementation of E-Learning for Malaysian Public Sector, and Member of the MIA Digital Implementation Committee, 2023-2025.

At the International level, he worked on various IT project implementations in South Africa, Sudan, Iran, Ghana, Kenya, Vietnam, Maldives, Bangladesh (World Bank Project), UAE, India, and Brunei.

In research, he has secured grants worth RM800K and published more than 70 research papers.
