Navigating the AI Revolution: Sanjay Sarma’s Insights on ‘Your Job vs. the Bots’

In the Hybrid Masterclass on “Your Job vs. the Bots,” Sanjay Sarma, ASB’s CEO, President, and Dean, gave insights on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market with an audience of industry leaders, educators, and students. He traced AI’s historical journey, its everyday applications, and the significant shifts it signals for developing countries.

“We figured out what neurons were about 100 years ago, and the journey of AI started around 1940. It’s taken 80 years to become an ‘overnight’ success,” Sanjay remarked, outlining the key breakthroughs and challenges that have defined AI’s evolution.

Highlighting AI’s potential to revolutionize daily tasks, Sanjay shared, “Many interactions we have daily can be replaced by AI, such as checking into hotels, ordering food, and customer service.” He emphasized the need for an educational overhaul, adding, “We must rethink our education system to train people in creative and critical thinking skills that robots cannot replicate.”

Addressing the future for developing countries, Sanjay cautioned, “Industries like call centers and shipping, which are significant revenue sources, will be automated. Countries need to pivot and become leaders in using AI rather than being victims of these changes.”

Looking ahead, Sanjay’s call to action was: “AI and related technologies are not just passing trends; they are reshaping our world. Companies must adapt, new enterprises will emerge, and entire countries will need to navigate these changes.” He urged a proactive approach, stating, “As we move forward, our focus should be on education and developing skills that AI cannot replicate.”
