Senior Manager, Research Outreach
Reports to: Deputy Dean of Research
About the Position
The Senior Manager of Research Outreach, under the Research Office, leads research outreach and coordinates research-related activities across the ASB as the main engagement representative of the research sector at ASB. This includes developing and implementing ASB’s research engagement strategy, which involves engaging external stakeholders, as well as seeking and securing research funding opportunities and facilitating agreements with research funders and partners. The Senior Manager of Research Outreach is also expected to connect multiple departments across ASB, including business development functions, executive education, faculty and research centers, to further the success of the research sector at ASB.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- General Administration Planning & Operation
- To lead all external-facing activities on behalf of the Research Office.
- To lead in the development and continuous improvement of external-facing research-related operational processes including partnership management, grant applications, events, and research communications and dissemination.
- To support the development of research activity strategies with the leadership of the Research Office and research centres, including the research engagement strategy for research funders and partners.
- To maintain data on external-facing research activities, such as research grants and agreements, engagement outcomes and events, to support institutional reporting, including for governance, accreditation and audit purposes.
- To manage and supervise Executives, Senior Executives and Managers as well as any external contractors in the Research Office where relevant to external-facing functions.
- To assist in ASB initiatives, events and activities on behalf of the Research Office, where needed.
- Research Partnerships & Engagement
- To serve as the focal point for all potential funders, partners and collaborators for the ASB research sector.
- To lead in engaging academics, academic and research institutions as well as public and private sector stakeholders on behalf of the Research Office, including visiting scholars and research seminar speakers.
- To facilitate the administrative processes required to host visiting scholars on behalf of the Research Office.To lead in the development and maintenance of research engagement materials and templates, including presentations and email templates.
- To lead in exploring and prospecting universities, public and private sector leads for research funding.
- To assist the research sector in the acquisition of research funding, including pitching, negotiation of terms, contract writing and signing, and any relevant internal processes required by ASB departments such as the Finance department.
- To maintain research funding application documents, including ASB audited financial reports and governance documents, research project budget proposal templates for use by the research sector.
- To manage the platforms and processes required to facilitate ASB research grants to external parties.
- To lead in planning and executing the commercialization of ASB research output, including assisting ASB’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre in doing so.
- Research Communication
- To lead in coordinating the research communications team in the planning and development of the research communications strategy.
- To lead in coordinating the research communications team in the planning, development and dissemination of research communications, including press releases and other write-ups, infographics and posters, as well as social media communications.
- To lead in coordinating the research communications team in the planning, development and execution of research sector events, including the coordination of contractors assisting in research marketing, communication and events activities.
- To assist the research communications team in liaising with ASB Marketing in order to ensure the timeliness and effective dissemination of research communications.
- To ensure research communications and events processes and activities align with ASB’s school-wide processes and campaigns.
- To serve as a focal point for both external parties and parties within the ASB community to promote ASB research sector activities and output.
Qualification and Skills
- Excellent general administration and Project Management skills.
- Excellent command of English and Malay (spoken and written) – both in research writing and also in business writing.
- Excellent organisational and collaboration skills, strong team player that can lead and delegate to teams.
- Good presentation skills to communicate to external stakeholders and potential funders.
- Self-motivated to initiate, operate and manage multiple different operations in the Research Office.
- Good interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years working experience in relevant field.
