Biography

Abd. Rahman Abu Bakar (Abd. Rahman) was appointed Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia on 1 May 2021. He was subsequently appointed as Chief Operating Officer on 15 October 2023.

As Assistant Governor and Chief Operating Officer, he is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the Bank’s Human Capital, Finance, Currency, and Centralised Shared Services functions. He also oversees the Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department and serves as the Head of the Malaysia delegation to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Abd. Rahman holds a degree in Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He began his career at Bank Negara Malaysia in 1992 and has served in various departments, including the Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department, Special Investigation Unit, Financial Intelligence Unit, Strategic Planning Unit, Human Resources Management Department, Economics Department, Insurance Regulation Department, and the Governor’s Office.
