Has the Pandemic Penalized Working Parents? Unintended Career Consequences of Work-from-Home– Research project under the CTSS Research Grant 2021 for Professor Charles Fine

The research team set out to explore how work from home (WFH) affected career trajectories of different worker groups, and what organizational arrangements and managerial practices might mitigate any adverse impacts on worker groups. In the research design, longitudinal administrative data and employee survey data would be gathered from multiple organizations in Malaysia and other ASEAN nations. Pre-pandemic and during-pandemic career outcomes for various worker groups, e.g. by household status (working parents with young children, working parents with older children, working professionals without children), age, organizational rank, etc, would be compared, to identify career penalties as a result of WFH.
