Prof. Dr. David Gonsalvez

Dr. Gonsalvez is the CEO & Rector at MIT Global SCALE Network’s Malaysian Institute of Supply Chain Innovation. From 2010-2014, he was the Executive Director in charge of MIT’s Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) in Zaragoza, Spain. For four years in a row from 2011 to 2014, ZLC has been ranked as the best Logistics education program in Spain. ZLC is also recognized as one of the leading research institutions in Logistics in Southern Europe. He is also Professor of Supply Chain Management at the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program and a Research Associate at MIT.
His research interests are in the integration of supply chain with other functions of the company and the opportunities that arise at these intersections. Current research projects include the integration of financial options in the purchasing process, the implication of broad societal trends for mobility and the automotive industry, and logistics clusters as instruments for growth.
Prior to joining ZLC, he was Director, Global Supply Chain Strategy, at General Motors. He was responsible for supply chain strategy, planning, and security in GM’s supply chains worldwide. In addition he led the operations research team supporting GM’s Global Purchasing and Supply Chain operations in identifying substantial improvements and savings in current operations while developing future cross-functional strategies and innovations. His 20+ year career at GM included assignments in Germany, Switzerland and Thailand.
Dr. Gonsalvez has a B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the Ohio State University.
