COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course addresses the main issues surrounding the energy industry and how public policies and geopolitical factors affect investment decisions and the rate of transition towards a low carbon, environmentally-friendly, energy production and consumption standard. It takes an energy systems approach which highlights the interconnected nature of energy production and consumption and the role played by technological, economic and social constraints. Participants will analyze data, discuss trade-offs of policy choices and explore how global trends in the energy industry will affect their own business operations.

FACULTY BIOGRAPHY

Renato Lima de Oliveira is an Assistant Professor of Business and Society at ASB who earned his PhD from MIT in Political Economy and Comparative Politics.  His research focuses on state-business relations, particularly in the fields of industrial competition, innovation policies, and energy transition. He is also a research affiliate at the MIT Industrial Performance Center (IPC) and author of award-winning publications in his area of expertise.
