Student Financial Aid Officer

Overview

The Student Financial Aid Officer will act as the first point of contact for students on matters relating to fees, financial aid, invoicing, payments and receipts of programme fees, expenses, disbursements and collections. This role is a strategic and operational role with initial main accountability in setting up a scalable loan infrastructure and services in ASB. The incumbent will seek opportunities to interface with banks and other institutions offering financial aids for higher education, leveraging on their loan systems. The incumbent will be expected to be hands on, work independently and have close engagements with various departments in ASB in particular, Finance team and student-facing departments such as Admission, Action Learning and Registrar team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the development, implementation, administration and management of the financial aid and fees collection in ASB
  • Approach and build rapport with financial institutions to establish financial aids or student loan schemes Participates in the development and implementation of ASB’s fees and financial aid policies and procedures including application, payments, collections and reports that will positively impact the efficiency and quality of service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide advice and assistance to students with loans, grants, scholarships, and the financial aid application process and review applications to assure accurate and complete information
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping of the financial aid via the use of spreadsheet, data entry system and any other suggested tools
  • Assist with the production of the Student handbook and prepare information packs with relevant information for staff and students as required. To maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and security
  • Conduct assessment of student needs including monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures
  • Lead continuous professional development relevant to the role and in line with ASB policy and objective
  • Interpreting, applying and complying for all regulations that govern the financial aid procedure of a student

Qualification & Skills
  • A degree in Finance and/or Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or relevant degree
  • At least recent 3 to 5 years of work experience in a bursary of an institution of higher education and/or a financial institution with loans and collection experience
  • Must possess excellent knowledge about various procedures of procuring financial aid
  • Must be resourceful, with good analyzing skills with the ability to prioritize information including ability to read, interpret and explain statistical data, technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written as well as excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in reviewing and screening applications for financial aid when determining eligibility and evaluating special circumstances with confidentiality maintained at all time
