Biography

Mr Tito Titus Mboweni is currently the Regional Advisor for Goldman Sachs, the Chairperson for Accelerate Property Fund, a Member of Board of Directors of Discovery Limited and Chair Person of the Board at Discovery Life & Invest. As well as the non-executive director of Zijin Platinum in South Africa, amongst several other commitments within the private sector and academia. He was the Minister of Finance of the Republic of South Africa from 9 October 2018 to 5 August 2021. He was Minister of Labour from May 1994 to July 1998.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Labour, Mr Mboweni was Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Policy in the African National Congress (ANC). He also represented the ANC on several domestic and international platforms. He was the eighth Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) from 1999 to 2009. He joined the SARB in July 1998 as Advisor to the Governor. Mr Mboweni obtained a Bachelor of Arts (honours equivalent) degree in Economics and Political Science from the National University of Lesotho in 1985. In 1987 he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Development Economics from the University of East Anglia in England.

He is honorary Professor at Wits and Stellenbosch Universities. He has been awarded a number of honorary doctorates (5). He is currently the Chairperson of the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), a Think To Do tank based in Accra, Ghana.
